I am going to tell you in 7 easy steps about how to create a custom student planner. Let’s get started.
As a student, I know how hard it can be to keep up with the barrage of assignments and projects that come our way. Between classes, studying for exams, working part-time jobs and attending meetings…it’s easy to get overwhelmed.
That’s why having a planner is so important! It allows you to stay organized and make sure you don’t miss a thing. And with the right planner, you can customize it to fit your needs and make sure it stays up-to-date at all times.
Creating an effective student planner doesn’t have to be complicated – with some careful planning, you can create a planner that suits your needs and helps keep everything organized.
In this blog post, I’ll show you how to create a custom student planner that will help keep you on track!
How to create a custom student planner?
First, decide what type of planner is best for your needs. Do you prefer a traditional paper-based calendar, or do you prefer something digital? If you opt for a paper-based calendar, make sure it includes plenty of room for writing down notes and keeping track of assignments. If you prefer something digital, there are plenty of great options out there that make tracking your tasks a breeze.
Once you’ve chosen the type of planner that works best for you, it’s time to customize it to fit your needs. This can mean adding pockets, tabs, or other features to help keep the planner organized and efficient. You can also add decorative touches like stickers, colorful paperclips, or ribbons to make it more visually appealing.
Finally, if you want your planner to be truly effective, set up a system for tracking all of your tasks and assignments. This could include a simple checklist for marking off completed tasks, or a color-coded system for categorizing different tasks. Whatever you choose, make sure it’s something that works with your individual style and needs.
Your planner must be unique in design in order to stand out. With all the different types of planners available, choosing one may be overwhelming for you especially if you are looking for something special to carry around at all times.
I would suggest you go for a girl-friendly design because we usually carry our planners everywhere (I even had a tiny journal bag to put my planner and journal into, so that they wouldn’t be accidentally stained because I was taking them everywhere with me.) – so it needs to be more compact and convenient to carry around almost all the time.
If you are looking for ideas, here’s how to create a custom student planner that’s just right for you.
1. Create a Customized Cover Page
The first step is to choose a theme. There are plenty of different themes to choose from:
- Seasonal
- Florals.
- Vintage
- Rad & Retro.
- Bold & Bright.
- Getaway Vibes.
Once you’ve decided on the style of your planner, it’s time to get started! Start by printing out all of the pages that you want in your planner — these will be your planning pages.
You can then start planning out each week and deciding what things need to be done for each day. If you want more space for writing down appointments or reminders, you can simply add another page!
If you’re looking for a way to make your planner unique, try using different colored paper, stickers, or other embellishments. For example, if your school is known for its green color scheme, use green paper and stickers in your planner.
You can also add photos of your favorite stars or friends from your school to create an even more personalized look. Use images from events at your school/ college that you want to remember forever. Consider including photos of events at your school/ college — such as homecoming football games, first day at college. This will help create a more personal connection with each page of information in the planner.
Use different colors to make it stand out. If you want your planner to look like a workbook, try using bright colors on the outside and inside covers.
The same goes for if you want it to look more like a traditional school planner with black ink on white paper: Try using dark colors for the outside cover and light colors for the inside pages.
2.Make your own templates with Canva or download them from here.
You can use an online site like Canva, or even Microsoft Word, to create a template for your planner.

Decide on a layout style that works best for you. There are many different ways to organize your student planner, such as by class or by subject. You might prefer a notebook layout where everything is in chronological order or you might prefer a spread-out format where each day’s assignment is listed in its own column.
You may also create several pages of space for each day of the week, including weekend days if you plan to use them in your calendar or schoolwork schedule. If there are any days during which you have no schoolwork due, don’t forget to include those free days in your planning! Number each of the pages according to their date or time frame (for example, from “Monday” through “Friday” or from “9:30 am – 10:40 am”).
3. Create your Own “Planner Days”: How to create a custom student planner
Before you start designing your custom student planner, ask yourself which type of day you want it to be. You can choose from the following:
Standard Day: The standard day is for a typical student. It includes all the basics: assignments due dates, tests, projects, etc.
Class Day: The class day is basically for classes — art or math or Spanish or whatever it may be. This will help you see how much work is left for each class and what days they need to study ahead of time in order to get an A on test day!
Study Day: The study day is meant to motivate students who need extra help with any aspect of schoolwork ( specifically homework). It consists of 1 hour’s worth of studying time that can be scheduled at any time during the week if needed
Relax Day: Probably your favorite day wherein you can shy away from the busy days at school. This is the planner day that you are surely looking forward to.
4. Make sure your planner reflects your Personality and Hobbies
If you’re an avid reader (like me!), create a reading list section with quotes from books that inspire you each month! Make sure that you have a planner page that helps you keep track of al the books you want to read next!
Get creative with Planner pages. Here are few ideas to help you get started:
- Random Notes
- Gratitude List
- Passions & Favorite Things List
- Daily Affirmations
- All the bucket lists to remind you of your dream life
- The dream version of you
If you want something inspirational, designing your planner with your favorite motivational quote is the best idea.

6. A Picture speaks a 1000 words. Cliché much?
You can put pictures of yourself, family members, pets, and/or friends in the planners that you create. This will make them even more personal and fun! You can also put your name, nickname, or initials for a more personal design.
Stick pictures in your journal with washi tapes to make it extra special. Try using a washi tape that matches the theme and colors of the page you’re adding the photo to.
7. Bring out that Creativity in you
Use whatever kind of paper or cover you want for your planner! You can even add stickers or buttons if you’d like! If you’re feeling really creative, try creating something unique with paper from an old book or magazine.
Creating a customized student planner is the perfect way to make sure you stay on top of all your assignments and tasks.
With the right plan, some creativity and a bit of organization, you can have a functional, effective and aesthetically pleasing planner in no time! So what are you waiting for?
