1. Choose the Perfect spot: Create The Perfect Reading Nook
The perfect spot for your reading nook is somewhere that already feels cozy and inviting. Consider tucked-away corners of your living room or bedroom, even an unused closet if you have the space!
Make sure there’s enough light (natural sunlight is always ideal!) without too much glare, so you can relax and read without straining your eyes. Soft curtains or blinds could help if the incoming sunlight is too harsh.
Remember, comfort and coziness are essential when creating your dreamy reading spot!
Tips for picking the perfect place to set up your reading nook:
- Look for a cozy corner or alcove in your living room, bedroom, or anywhere else to create a sense of privacy.
- Make sure there’s enough space to curl up and lose yourself in a good book.
- Keep the area free from clutter, as this can be distracting and take away from the relaxation of your nook.
- Make sure the area is comfortable and isn’t too distracting.
- If outside, make sure you have enough warm blankets and a comfy chair to sit in!
2. What Theme are you going for?
What kind of theme do you want for your perfect reading nook?
A cozy winter wonderland to keep you warm in the cold months? Or a beachy paradise for days when you just can’t face reality? Maybe a classic library to make you feel like a scholar?
Whatever theme you choose, be sure to find decorations and furnishings that will bring it to life.
Throw in some quirky pieces here and there, like a novelty pillow or an illuminated bookend, to give it some added oomph.
3. A comfy Throne to make your reading dreams come true!
A comfy chair is a must-have item for any reading nook. I mean, if you don’t have a chair that’s comfortable enough to sink into, it’s just not worth calling it a “nook”. Not to mention, the right seating can make all the difference when it comes to reading.
You want your chair to be wide and welcoming. The perfect reading nook chair should make you feel like you’re getting hugged by a cloud.
Why you ask? Because you’ll find yourself spending hours and hours in there. A plush chair, a big poufy bean bag, or even an oversized cushion can provide the perfect cozy spot for reading your book.
Add in some throw pillows and blankets to snuggle up with, and you’ll feel so comfortable you might never want to leave!
4. Display your favorite books and knick-knacks on shelves or tables
Displaying your favorite books and knick-knacks on shelves or tables is another great way to make your reading nook feel special.

There’s nothing quite like a string of fairy lights to add that magical sparkle!

In a pinch, an old-fashioned paper lantern might do the trick too — just make sure it isn’t so big that it crowds out all your books!
And if you’re feeling especially adventurous, why not hang a big bunch of paper lanterns from the ceiling to create a totally unique, whimsical atmosphere? The possibilities are endless — and you can always switch up your style whenever the mood strikes.
No matter how many fairy lights (or paper lanterns) you choose to hang, one thing’s for sure: your book nook will never look the same again!
9. Add plants to make your space look lively
Bringing life to your reading nook is the key to creating a cozy, inviting space.
Introducing colorful plants will do just that and can also provide you with some privacy from passersby. Get creative by adding different sizes and colors of flowers–arrange them on bookshelves or around the floor near your chair for an eye-catching display.
10. Keep your Reading nook clean and organized.
The trick to keeping your reading nook feeling comfortable is making sure it’s also clean and organized.
That doesn’t mean you have to be a neat freak all the time—just make sure you’re proactive about tidying up. Put the books back on their shelves, give the floor a quick once-over with a mop, and throw any snacks or spills into the trash.
And if you really want to keep your reading nook feeling fresh, add a few scented candles or a diffuser with some calming essential oils.
That way, every time you sink into your reading corner, you’ll have that cozy, calm feeling wash over you! Plus, it won’t take too much effort to keep your reading nook in tip-top shape. So, don’t let messiness stop you from cozying up with a good book.
